Section Areas with Rhino 5 WIP (18 May)
«

Hi, My planing powerboat hulls generate negative section areas in Rhino 5 WIP (18 May), but create positive areas in Rhino 4. Can you help me?
(PS the planning boat default hull has a WL much lower than practical)
I have both problems on two systems, both running Win 7
Cheers,
Grant

Hi Grant,
At this point I have only confirmed the behavior you describe. I am discussing it with the folks at McNeel to determine a resolution. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Regarding the default planing hull, we are changing the default values to lower the boat to make the chine wet at the transom. This is easily accomplished by decreasing the values of "Deck Height@Bow", "Deck Height@Transom", "Chine Height @Bow", and "Keel Height@Transom" by the same amount.

Thanks!
Can I assume that I can take the negative values and just make them positive?

Hi Grant,
Yes, you can reverse the sign of the sectional areas in Rhino 5. After some discussions with McNeel it seems that there may have been a change in the logic related to the positive orientation for the area calculation in Rhino 5 that leads to this behavior. We have made the necessary adjustments in Orca3D and it should be fixed in the next release.
