Hydrostatic calculations fail when Weight is specified |
When running a hydrostatics & stability calculation by
specifying the Weight the calculation fails, although it runs fine when
the model sinkage is specified. |
|
|
This issue has to do with the initial waterplane height
for the free-float iteration. When you specify a weight (and/or cg) for
the hydrostatics, the solution becomes iterative in which the solver
must balance hydrostatic forces. The iteration has to start somewhere
and by default we choose the mid-height of the bounding box of the
selected surfaces. Without appendages (e.g. a keel) this is usually a
reasonable guess, but with appendages it can cause the solver to fail.
You can override the initial plane height by checking the box "Override
initial plane height for free float iteration" and entering a value that
is reasonably close to the resultant waterline. |

Licensing Issue on Vista |
When running Vista, Orca3D tells me that the Evaluation period has
expired. Running the License Manager and clicking on "Phone/Email License"
shows "Unable to install Windows Service" and the Installation ID is blank. |
| |
This issue results from installing Orca3D without elevated
Administrative privileges in Vista. The solution is as follows:
- Browse to
the Orca3D
installation folder (by default, this is c:\Program
Files\DRSC3ATC\Orca3D).
-
In that
folder, right-click (not double-click) the file "License Manager.exe,"
and select "Run as Administrator".
Note that you must also run Rhino once as
Administrator in order to properly register the Orca3D plug-in.

| Installation Problem |
During the installation process, the following error is displayed: "An error has
occurred downloading a required file. You may download that file." |
| |
During the installation of Orca3D the installation process checks your computer for two Microsoft
components, and if they are not there, downloads them from the internet.
They are .NET 2.0 (which usually is already installed), and the Microsoft
Report Viewer.
The error above generally occurs when the installation
is done without being connected to the internet. If that is the case, simply
make sure that you are connected to the internet (and have admin privileges)
when you install.
If you were connected but still received that error,
then there was some other reason that the Report Viewer could not be
downloaded. In that case, follow these steps:
- Manually download and install the Microsoft Report
Viewer, from
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=98185
- Install Orca using the .msi
file instead of the setup.exe file. Remember to right-click the .msi
file and run with elevated privileges if you are running on Vista.
